Here's the latest bunch of idiocy from the nation's capital.
Thanks to the top-drawer cleanliness and public hygiene practices by the 0ccupiers, there's a huge rat infestation - and I don't mean the human variety, I'm talking Rattus Norvegicus, our good friend the plain old brown rat - that threatens the public health.
In the typical turn common-sense on its head tradition of these bozos (and let me apologize to the real Bozo who wasn't a bozo in the lower case sense at all, may he rest in peace), the fear of PETA has been put into the DC administration so they're not going to do any trapping or poisoning or anything that might help to get rid of these vermin; instead they're possibly going to do a bit of live trapping and then release them somewhere else so they're someone else's problem instead of theirs, but rats are pretty good at finding their original location so they're going to get a bunch of them back there in DC anyway and then they'll find out that these nasty little buggers carry lepto and rabies and all those other good things that took out Raccoon City in those games and movies.
OK, that last bit is just my hyperbole acting up, but my meds are kicking in and the rest of it is true - just wait until no-animal-product-wearing former hippies and hippie wannabes find out that their little dogs are all dying of leptospirosis because the breeders wouldn't let them be vaccinated for it and their PETA friends have made sure that the rats are protected so their dogs aren't: "What, you mean I've picked a rat over Fifi?" That's right, you moron, you picked a pest over your pet! And then you're going to find that these nasty critters are a nice vector for rabies, and it's not just your pets that can get that - and they are probably vaccinated anyway - but your kids who want to play with that nice brown animal in the park are going to find out that people can get rabies just as much as dogs and cats and rats and everything.
Yeah, it's all fun and games until somebody starts getting shots in the gut to take care of a rat bite.
What a bunch of dopes.

Facing The Ugly Truth
Just when I think our "elites" can't get any dumber, they delight me with another "Oh, great, I guess it can get worse" moment like this one.
First it was the smarmy Eurocrats telling people what kind of nose jobs they can have without being labeled as mentally ill. Now we have pinhead Texas professor Hamermesh
telling us that since ugly people earn less money than the average, we need to make "Ugly" a protected class.
The moron helpfully provides research in his book, "Beauty Pays," (please don't buy it, folks, you'll just encourage him. Think of this as a "don't feed the trolls" kind of area.) to show that ugly people earn less money, marry folks who also make less money, have more trouble getting loans (not that making money - being able to repay - would have anything to do with how hard it is to get a loan, right?), and just find it all around harder to get ahead than the non-Ugly folks in these United States.
I think the best part of this whole idea is that once you get government certified as "Ugly" no one will ever even think of calling you ugly or treating you badly. I wish I could be a card-carrying Ugly-American - that's the kind that always gets to go to Europe and trash our reputation as educated, polite, progressive, reasonable people, right? Maybe that means the government is going to pay for these Ugly-Americans to travel - with my tax dollars, since as far as I can tell, I'm not ugly enough to qualify.
Does Ugly run in families? If my wife and I are Ugly, will my kids automatically qualify? What if they're only half-Ugly? Does this all work like the other protected classes?
Oh, one of the best parts is that we'll finally have an objective standard for who's Ugly and who's not - no more personal taste involved, and maybe Ugly women will suddenly be in demand for marriage since they'll come with automatic extra benefits from the government and in employment since you wouldn't dare lay off the ugly one or the EEOC would come down on you like a ton of bricks and maybe hit you with the Ugly Stick.
Maybe this all makes some sort of bizarre sense if you're acollege professor moron, but since I'm not a moron, I happy to say that I probably wouldn't understand.

Parsing the Prez
"America, it is time to focus on nation-building here at home," said president 0bama in his address regarding pulling troops out of Afghanistan.
A few points might be helpful in translating this for normal people:
So what he said is, if you like these United States of America, too bad for you.

A few points might be helpful in translating this for normal people:
- No, this doesn't mean that he doesn't realize that we already have a nation here; it means he doesn't like the nation that we already have here.
- Remember that he promised to "fundamentally transform" America when running for President; this is likely his realization that he isn't likely to get reelected, so this next year and a half will be all the time he has to pull down the current structures and rebuild America in his own image.
- Europe hasn't fully imploded yet, so he can still point to his friends as examples of mature folks who don't treat rich people as well as poor people. Once Greece defaults and takes Italy with it, he knows he's going to have an even tougher time convincing anyone that his new way forward is anything but a rabbit-hole to insolvency and serfdom.
So what he said is, if you like these United States of America, too bad for you.

Parsing the Feds
parse -
transitive verb
2: to examine in a minute way : analyze critically
Our federal financial types are telling us that if we don't raise the debt limit so we can borrow more money, then we'll have to default on our current obligations. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says that interest rates would spike, stock and home values would sink, savings and investment would dry up, jobs would disappear, businesses would fail, and everything from tax refunds to troops' salaries would go unpaid.
Here's the translation for normal people:
We owe too much right now, so we'd better borrow some more.
It's interesting that paying down debt
I wish I could run my household
